Is there anyplace I can go to avoid your Spirit? to be out of your sight?  If I climb to the sky, you’re there! If I go underground, you’re there! If I flew on morning’s wings to the far western horizon, You’d find me in a minute—  you’re already there waiting! Then I said to myself, “Oh, he even sees me in the dark! At night I’m immersed in the light!” It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you; night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you.  Psalm 139:7-12

Tuesday was an intense and beautiful day. Our youth had an amazing day. They made new friends and reflected together about how God continues to create and to restore God’s image in each other, or as our yoga instructor salutes us every morning saying, “NAMASTE.”

We welcomed Jordan in our midst. Jordan is an upcoming middle school boy (6th grade) from FPC Las Vegas, NM. He is staying in our home cabin “Chamisa” because the Ghost Ranch registrar got confused and tried to roommate him with his church’s girls youth group.

Jordan (in the middle) joining our Group

The registrar did not know if Jordan was a girl’s or a boy’s name. Speaking of stereotypes… today we shared our stories and we listened to each other’s stories, and learned together more about the stereotypes that people have about each other, and how we as a community of faith also stereotype other people. There was a unanimous feeling among the diverse groups that stereotypes don’t define who we are as children of God and that stereotypes most of the times are hurtful because they don’t get the whole picture of the self. We learned from the Scriptures that we are broken people, but, in Christ, God continues to work in restoring God’s image in each other as we struggle together on getting this “image of God” message in our daily life.

We closed our Tuesday night with worship at the Agape Chapel, and with Lectio Divina back in our cabins.

Prayer Flags of Self

Here are some words and phrases we want to share with you that connected us back to God’s heartbeat: You’d find me in a minute, horizon, climb to the sky, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you, morning, and immersed.

On Wednesday morning our youth will continue to do more team building activities and then we will hike up to Chimney Rock to close the day with a worship service of candles.

Namaste,
David Martinez
